Messi is more adept at individual performances. Conmable has overtaken Brazilian legend Pele to become the highest goal scorer in the region. And most recently, he set another record with a pair of goals in a 3-0 win over Jamaica on Wednesday (September 27).
Messi has overtaken former Malaysian footballer Mokhtar Dahari to become the top three goalscorer in international football history. Only former Iranian football player Ali Dai and Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo are ahead of him in the list of highest goals. Ali Dai is second in the list with 109 goals and Ronaldo is at the top with 117 goals.
Meanwhile, Messi played the 164th match of his international career against Jamaica. With the win, he reached another milestone in his career. After making his debut for the national team in a friendly match against Hungary in 2005, the Argentine star won 100 matches.
Even in this milestone, Messi is behind his arch-rival Ronaldo. After playing 190 matches, the Portuguese star won 112 matches. Spain's defender Sergio Ramos is on top of the match wins among the stars playing football at the moment. However, with 131 wins in 180 matches, he is the highest international match winning footballer in history.
Ramos' former teammate Iker Casius is second on the list with 121 wins in 167 matches. After them is the position of Ronaldo. Former Mexican defensive midfielder Andre Guardado, fourth, has 101 wins in 177 matches. Messi's position is five. Argentina have no more international matches before the World Cup in Qatar. So Messi will have to wait until November to overtake Guardado.
