They beat India by five wickets with two balls to spare. And it's a statement win too. India had theirs against Pakistan last week but now South Africa have shown they know how to deal with pressure (did someone say the word...) after they recovered from 24 for 3, 40 and then Aiden hit the halfway mark. Markram and David Miller switched gears, scoring 76 in 10 overs, scoring a half-century each and eventually securing a comfortable victory.

But let's not forget that South Africa set the tone on the field. Their fast men were exceptional and used the short ball to great effect. India's attack was also outstanding for the most part. They used fuller lengths and found swing but in the end, both captains had to gamble with how they used their spinners. Temba Bavuma couldn't catch a break with the bat and failed again but made the right decision to use Keshav Maharaj for just three overs while giving one to Aiden Markram. Between them, they conceded 33 runs in four overs. Rohit bowled out Sharma and Ashwin and used him to bowl the 17th over. At that time South Africa needed 25 runs from 18 balls. They took 13 off Ashwin and though he dismissed Tristan Stubbs, it was too little, too late.

The result has big implications for the rest of the group, especially Pakistan, whose semi-final hopes hang by a thread. A win for South Africa means that Pakistan will not only have to beat South Africa on Thursday, but hopefully India will lose to Bangladesh and either Zimbabwe or South Africa will lose to the Netherlands.
